A coming of age film project written and produced by Demeco D. Walters. The storyline chronicles a school year in the lives of eighth graders Dalvin, Kristian, Alex, and Devon as they navigate the adolescent clad halls of Henry Lee Middle School.

 

Short Synopsis

It’s September 1989, the first day of the new year at Henry Lee Middle School.  Dalvin Matthews reunites with friends Kristian, Alex and Devon.  Dalvin’s  quest for his final year at the school is to DeeJay at the school dance and win the heart of the most popular girl at the school, Iesha Parker.  Meanwhile the school’s world is turned upside down when a no nonsense Principal, Ms. Hampton is hired to transform the school’s negative reputation into a productive learner  environment.  If only Middle School was so easy.  With hurdles such as corrupt administrators, school villains, peer pressure, cliques, and drugs; the students of Henry Lee must overcome life’s hurdles to endure the school year.

Henry Lee is about students experiencing the joys and pains of adolescents, while adjusting to a reformed school structure set in place by Principal Hampton.  Students are also faced with the turbulent times of Tacoma, WA., during the late 80s/ early 90s, which was laced with gang violence, and drug epidemic.

The Team

Demeco D. Walters

Producer, Screen Writer, Co-Director

Demeco, a native of Tacoma, WA has been a passionate writer since the age of 15.  He has participated and won literary and poetry contest since that time.  In 2000, he self-published a book that consists of a collection of poetic expressions about spirituality, relationships and social issues, entitled “My Soul”.  That project allowed Demeco to share and recite poetry to young people throughout the Puget Sound and the United States as well.  Demeco has written and produced original music for several young people that were aspiring artists in the community.  Demeco received formal training in screenwriting from the American International University, Atlanta, GA.  In 2013, Demeco teamed up with producer and screenwriter, Jason Fredericks.  He and Jason have written and submitted original material and content to reputable Hollywood producers for potential production.  Currently, Demeco is serving as Executive Producer and screenwriter of the movie project, Middle School ’89.  One of Demeco’s strength is his ability to persuade individuals from various backgrounds to come together and create positive and progressive content that appeals to the masses.

 

Anthony McArthur

Executive Producer

Anthony McArthur was born in Tacoma, Washington in 1970.  He is one of five children. Anthony has been involved in the arts since a child.

The earnings from his first job went to buy an EPS keyboard, which did not make his father happy.  He found a great love with his keyboard and started making his own music.

Anthony started writing and singing his own music in High School. In 1991 Anthony built his own studio, Devone’ Productions, in his house to take his music to another level. He produced, engineered, and wrote dozens of songs for local artists. Anthony has also worked with other studios including David Lang Studios and Gibson Audio Services and Ironwood Studios.

While involved with the church in 1995 he and his wife wrote a play titled Choices.  They spent time with their three small children at the church casting, directing, and promoting the play.

All this was done in evenings after working in the construction field for twenty-two years.  Where he stated out as a laborer and worked his way up to become a project manager/estimator.

Now that he is currently retired from the construction industry and works at home in his studio and writing on his Facebook page KYAU “Keep Your Antennas Up”. He is looking forward to being involved with Joint Venture Productions.

 

Jason Fredericks

Production Advisor, Co-Director

Jason is a visual media visionary, talent writer,
producer and director who is known for his detailed
storytelling. He is a new passionate voice and
innovative business mind that is beginning to become a
force in the entertainment industry. Jason gained
popularity as a viral sensation on the social network
YouTube with “The Playmakers.” The Playmakers are a
trio that features himself, his brother Kevin Fredericks
(aka KevOnStage), and best friend Anthony Davis. Jason
is directly responsible for creating content that has
garnered over 100 Million views and over 1 Million +
social media subscribers. Some of the notable people
Jason has worked with are: BET Founder Bob Johnson,
and Executive Producers Tracey Edmonds (Jumping
The Broom, College Hill), Holly Carter (Preachers of LA,
The Merge Summit), and Damon Lee (Obsessed,
Undercover Brother).

 

Joey Pepin

Producer

Joey Pepin was born and raised in Tacoma, WA near the north and south dividing line of 6th Ave. An attendee of Jason Lee Middle School and graduate of Stadium High School, Joey moved to Bellingham, Washington with his future wife to pursue an education in broadcasting. After a successful stint broadcasting in Bellingham and Seattle, Joey moved back to Tacoma to begin his voice acting career and raise his daughter with his. 14 years later, Joey is a nationally represented SAG-AFTRA talent with thousands of credits in promo, narration and commercial voiceovers. Joey brings his knowledge of scripts, talent agents, casting directors, producers, engineers and directors to this project as well as his ability to work and get along with many different personalities from all over the world.
